THE GARRISON

THE GARRISON was built 41 years ago on the site of the original Garrison for Fort William Henry. The first Garrison "KOOM" Cafe building burned 15 years ago. The original building had an up-stairs loft and was known as the KOOM ROOM. In the 1960's, when the drinking age was still 18 in New York and 21 in all surrounding states, hundreds of college kids worked in or visited Lake George each summer. The Garrison is remembered as "The bar that sold more Budweiser beer than any bar on the east coast." Only those who frequented The Garrison in "the 60's" know the true meaning of the word "KOOM" and have carefully kept their secret. Today, 30 some odd years later, college kids still bring in their college pennants to receive a "Free Pitcher of Bud" and try to find out what the word KOOM really means.
